I've managed development and implementation of BI solutions for different purposes during many years, i.e. at TeliaSonera, Trygg-Hansa, Sonofon, Viking Line, Tele2 etc.

In my case has the BI solutions often been a part of the CRM or ECM solutions.
BI solutions are often depending upon EI solutions. The BI solutions often are depending upon or include a Datawarehouse solution.
